One of my best friends, Tanvir, made me his mom's authentic Indian chai recipe one day at my house, and was dreaming of it for over a year before I had the guts to ask for the recipe.
Some chai etiquette I was informed of:
- it is pronounced "chaw"
- there is no need to say "chai tea", that's the same as saying "tea tea". Just chai.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of Wild Prairie Chandler Honey
- 1 cup of water
- 2 orange pekoe teabags
- 2 crushed cardamoms (crushed in a mortar and pestle if possible)
- 2 cloves
- 1 cup of milk (the fattier the better)
Directions:
Boil water with the two teabags, Wild Prairie Chandler Honey, cardamom, and cloves. Boil for 2 minutes.
Add the cup of milk, and bring to a boil again.
Reduce heat and let simmer for 3 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!
